[18:02] the windows folder picker sucks. you could use the windows file picker but it's kinda hacky to apply it to folders [18:14] yeah the folder picker also doesn't let you type in a path [18:15] Well, some Windows apps, like Handbrake, use a 'select folder' variant of the dialog. And I'm inclined to think that it's not custom for Handbrake, but provided by Windows [18:16] I don't think the file picker needs a hacky solution, it should be a matter of setting acceptFiles to flase [18:16] Though saying that, I don't havce any real problems with the current built-in dialog ScummVM has [18:16] or ValidateNames [18:19] hmm looking further it does seem a little hacky to do folder only selection in the FileDialog [18:19] can always just improve the existing dialog to have an editable path [18:21] well IFileDialog is a vista+ only thing, before that you would have to mess around with the controls [18:21] but yes everyone just uses a customized file picker because the folder picker sucks :p dunno how "standard" it is [18:22] you could reverse one of these back into its win32 calls: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/31059/how-do-you-configure-an-openfiledialog-to-select-folders [18:23] _sev (~sev@scummvm/undead/sev) joined #scummvm. Would a native picker be preferable to simply offering the option to type in the path? [22:30] K4T (~K4T@93.179.200.166) left irc: Ping timeout: 264 seconds [22:33] Good question. I'm actually on the fence, in that I like the current folder dialog. If you're the one going to be doing the development, it really comes down to which you prefer to implement. [22:34] Though keeping in mind that if you add the native dialog, unless theres's consensus to switch over it, it might end up as a compilation option disabled by default. Having a typeahead in the existing dialog would be useful for all systems, so it's probably got more value [22:34] My main problem with the current non-native picker on Windows is that I can't access network shares unless I have them assigned to a drive letter. [22:35] Hmmm.. that's true. I don't have a local network at home, so I haven't had that problem [22:35] This is not a problem in OSX, since the native picker navigates that fine. On Windows, there's no way to get to the network shares without manually editing the scummvm.ini to a UNC path (which works fine as long as it's on it and you don't navigate back to a local drive) [22:36] And all my game data is on a network computer, so this has been a long-standing minor annoyance (but I've just worked around it) [22:36] a new textfield is probably simpler than obtaining consensus on the windows situation, although resolving paths might be harder than a picker [22:36] Just the ability to manually enter a path would mitigate it. [22:37] And probably easier than trying to support the changing Win API across the different versions that ScummVM supports. [22:37] Deledrius: that reminds me, is there a gui option to edit the default game path without digging into the ini? that would also mitigate it somewhat [22:38] Not that I know of. [22:39] The last path is only in the ini, I think? At least I don't see it. [22:39] And all the places that set paths use the internal-picker on Windows anyway, so they don't help. [22:39] true. i might mess around with the picker idea myself anyways, just to have a working comparison. Sedictious_ patch will still be useful for other systems (and old windows) [22:53] dreammaster (~dreammast@c-67-180-185-91.hsd1.ca.comcast.net) left irc: [23:00] ignalina (~pettersjo@h-238-27.A639.priv.bahnhof.se) left irc: Quit: ignalina [23:15] I think you can start by just changing the path field to be typable [23:17] criezy (~criezy@host86-176-174-96.range86-176.btcentralplus.com) left irc: Quit: criezy [00:00] --- Mon Aug 6 2018
