[00:01] <m_kiewitz> iMUSE changed music according to the situation at hand
[00:02] <m_kiewitz> and i didn't mean a bit shorter or longer. Plenty of Sierra games sync stuff on the screen perfectly to the music.
[00:02] <m_kiewitz> Like for example Police Quest 3 intro. Syncing the animation to the music in those cases makes sense.
[00:03] <m_kiewitz> iMuse did a nice job, but not for things like that, but instead when entering a room it changed the theme dynamically to a new theme
[00:03] <m_kiewitz> which is actually really fascinating in its own right.
[00:04] <snover> i agree, both systems have their different strengths.
[00:05] <m_kiewitz> i can't think of a single situation in iMuse games, where they synced up perfectly to animations. Wait, did Monkey Island 2 use it? Idk for sure, but there is that skeleton dance
[00:06] <m_kiewitz> no idea how that is sync'd, or if it's even sync'd at all without simply using delays
[00:06] <m_kiewitz> ah yes, MI2 has to use iMuse
[00:06] <m_kiewitz> was that skeleton dance in MI2, I played it ages ago
[00:08] <snover> seems so. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHgRlsOvN3M
[00:12] <m_kiewitz> didn't they remove iMuse from the HD versions?
[00:13] <m_kiewitz> i wonder what would happen if you hit pause while that scene is running
[00:13] <m_kiewitz> would it sync up?

[03:02] <morpheous> ok i will do..
[03:02] <morpheous> but i have just one or two basic questions if i may...
[03:03] <tsoliman> sure .. I should have said "also try the forum" not "don't bother" :)
[03:05] <morpheous> I lolz
[03:06] <morpheous> is there a particular version of ScummVM games i need to use with the PS2 version of scum? or i can use any version games?
[03:07] <tsoliman> snover: this totally worked!!! :D
[03:08] <snover> woot.
[03:08] <tsoliman> morpheous: I would start by asking if you can get the games to work on your computer first ... using the same version of scummvm you're trying to use on the PS2
[03:08] <tsoliman> snover: it is very disconcerting .. because of the disparity in the sound quality
[03:09] <snover> heh. i can imagine.
[03:09] <snover> what game are you improving?
[03:09] <tsoliman> QFG4
[03:09] <morpheous> ScummVM Collection v1.9.0 11/21/2016 I have this game collection and am using scummvm-1.7.0-ps2 on my Phat PS2 via 2TB internal HDd
[03:09] <tsoliman> snover: I am prepared to fail .. but it is totally worth it
[03:09] <snover> oh, are you putting in that remastered soundtrack? :)
[03:09] <tsoliman> yes!
[03:10] <tsoliman> the wolf howl seems to "dim" the digital music then it soars when the hown stops .. so there's wrinkles
[03:11] <snover> morpheous: piracy is forbidden. please do not enquire any more about this or you will be banned.
[03:11] <snover> inquire*
[03:11] <snover> i dont english anymore :|
[03:11] <morpheous> what i am asking is, if v1.9.0 games are compatable with 1.7.0 version of ps2
[03:11] <morpheous> I didn't say anything about piracy...
[03:12] <morpheous> I just posted a version of games i have and asking if they are compatible with the ps2 version. how is that piracy?
[03:12] Nick change: Joefish_ -> Joefish
[03:12] <Joefish> morning :)
[03:12] <tsoliman> snover: ensure vs insure threw me off last year (non native)
[03:13] <morpheous> I own all my games and just backed them up on my 4TB hdd
[03:13] <tsoliman> Joefish: morning
[03:13] <morpheous> any ideas fellas?
[03:14] #scummvm: mode change '+b *!*@ool-44c00d1d.dyn.optonline.net' by snover!~snover@unaffiliated/snover
[03:15] morpheous kicked from #scummvm by snover: illegal downloads (scummvm collection? please do not insult my intelligence by claiming this is your personal backup) are not supported by scummvm.
[03:18] <tsoliman> I now have to play the game and take notes for each of the rooms .. or I can just teleport with "room #" and pray
[03:21] <snover> tsoliman: you may try decompiling the game scripts and grepping for 'number:' if you are just trying to figure out the mapping between rooms and the sounds that they play
[03:22] <tsoliman> "decompiling the game scripts" .. how do I even begin?
[03:23] <tsoliman> ok rooms might not work actually
[03:23] <tsoliman> since there's a bunch of battles
[03:23] <tsoliman> I will just play through it .. it is just that I overly linger after I "convert" a resource because it sounds soooo goood
[03:24] <snover> download SCICompanion, make sure any script patches are in the root directory of the game (and not some PATCHES directory), open the RESOURCE.MAP in SC, Script -> Manage decompilation, select all, decompile, wait a while, theyll be output in a src/ directory in the game directory.
[03:25] <snover> this might not get you 100% of the sounds in the right places (like if the game also uses some subroutine sometimes to play sounds), but it is a reasonable starting point
[03:25] <tsoliman> thanks!
[03:26] <snover> if you want to match the sounds by ear, just open the resources in SCI Viewer and listen to them from there
[03:27] <tsoliman> does it have to be WAV?
[03:31] <snover> yes, but the wave decoder supports mp3 as a compression format if you build with mp3 support
[03:34] <tsoliman> it doesn't seem to be loading 130.mp3 but loads 130.wav if that's there
[03:35] <snover> yes, you would need to encapsulate the MP3 data in a RIFF (WAV) file
[03:36] <tsoliman> oh I see .. yeah I was just trying to make it symlink to the existing MP3 files I have
[03:36] <tsoliman> instead of ffmpeg .. if I am ffmpeg-ing I may as well make it regular wav
[03:36] <tsoliman> (space isn't currently my problem)
[03:37] <snover> more formats could be detected and supported in the future if it makes sense to do so. the only limitations right now are what file extensions are loaded as patches, and the code to detect the type of file by reading headers
[03:38] <tsoliman> sweet .. let's see if this works properly without major nightmares :) .. 3 files in
[03:39] <tsoliman> I am doing the "convert and test" approach .. for sanity
[03:39] <tsoliman> that way I can stop when I see the problems
[03:39] <tsoliman> I should make a comparison youtube of this :)
[03:42] <snover> so long as you report all of the game-killing bugs to the bug tracker :)
[03:43] <tsoliman> :D
[03:46] <tsoliman> well this sucks .. quicktime screen capture doesn't capture audio
[03:49] <snover> install something like kuwatec audio loopback
[03:49] <snover> or&some other capture software&
[03:52] <tsoliman> this is the first time I am capturing stuff .. and on a mac no less
[03:58] <snover> given how much macs were used for pro audio work in the past, it continues to baffle me how crappy its system audio handling is
[03:58] <tsoliman> and to compound it .. SIP made all the existing tooling a PITA
[03:59] <tsoliman> "ok this dubious kext now requires signing"
[04:00] <tsoliman> I was able to capture audio in windows 98 with a SB16 .. that's the last time I remember doing that actually .. Creative's "what you hear" audio source
[04:00] <tsoliman> (it may have been a later SB .. memory fails me)
[04:03] <snover> instead we get exciting features like a new version of a proprietary graphics api. woo hoo :)

[18:54] <m_kiewitz> there are actually simple ways to remove that yellow
[18:54] <m_kiewitz> i'm not exactly sure why it happens, i think i read about it years ago
[18:55] --> girafe joined #scummvm.
[18:56] <logix> afaik the plastic reacts to UV light, and the common theory is that some batches are affected more by it than others simply due to a slightly different composition of the shell materials
[18:58] <m_kiewitz> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PImZt5km9s <-- in that video even the inside is affected
[18:59] <logix> euro snes mini up for preorder at the ninty uk store: https://twitter.com/NintendoUK/status/879710627794755585
[19:00] <logix> I think that's UK only, not sure
[19:01] <m_kiewitz> yes they deliver to UK only
[19:01] <m_kiewitz> 70 pounds, nice
[19:02] <m_kiewitz> so amazon is ripping people off
[19:02] <m_kiewitz> sold out btw :p
[19:04] <logix> amazon.co.uk or de?
[19:04] <logix> i've only been checking de
[19:05] <logix> I don't see it in either, what's the ASIN?
[19:06] <m_kiewitz> no idea what the price on amazon UK was
[19:06] <m_kiewitz> i was too slow
[19:06] <m_kiewitz> amazon de asked for 100 EUR
[19:06] <logix> link?
[19:07] <logix> ah, got it, B071G84PFQ
[19:07] <m_kiewitz> asin of UK is B071G84PFQ
[19:07] <m_kiewitz> strangely amazon de must have used a different one, because i had a watcher on that asin and it didn't tell me that it was up
[19:08] <m_kiewitz> DE asin is B073BVHY3F
[19:08] <logix> B073BVHY3F for de
[19:08] <m_kiewitz> despite both being the same
[19:08] <logix> ha :)
[19:08] <m_kiewitz> i wonder if France will get another one :/
[19:09] <m_kiewitz> oh btw in case you own a Wii U. coolshop is selling Steamworld Dig / Heist + DLC on disc for 13 EUR only / 12 pounds
[19:09] <m_kiewitz> they sell the UK disc
[19:09] <logix> hm, https://www.gamestop.it/WiiU/Games/105921
[19:10] <m_kiewitz> i wouldn't be surprised in case Germany got a mark up
[19:10] <m_kiewitz> Fox did the same shite with the Titanic Limited Edition (Blu-ray)
[19:10] <m_kiewitz> On Amazon France it was 40 EUR. On Amazon Germany it was 60 EUR
[19:10] <m_kiewitz> and it was literally the exact same product
[19:11] <m_kiewitz> Fox wrote that there would only be French + English audio for the French edition, but it was the exact same disc as the one released in Germany
[19:11] <m_kiewitz> anyway, in case this sticks, I will of course cancel. But at least I got a pre-order in

[19:22] <logix> https://www.theverge.com/2017/6/26/15875482/nintendo-snes-classic-mini-console-amazon-uk-preorder-pricing says it was listed on amazon.de at 79.99 but the final price with shipping was 71.61 - I could imagine that they entered an international (non US) shipping address and those 71.61 were without UK VAT and with shipping
[19:22] <logix> all in gbp
[19:24] <logix> m_kiewitz: did you see https://twitter.com/dylancuthbert ? that guy worked on starfox 2, they're basically celebrating the release of the game :)

[19:37] <m_kiewitz> they also only ship to UK

[19:41] <logix> s/means/meant/
